More than 300 students each year participate in the Notre Dame Basketball and Hockey Varsity (Pep) Bands. Basketball Bands are split into 2 groups, playing for both Men's and Women's Basketball home games. Hockey Band performs as one group at all Hockey home games.

Members of both Basketball and Hockey Bands are eligible for post-season conference and NCAA Tournament travel. Participation is open to all students, including those not in the marching band. Please contact Sam Sanchez for more information regarding the Basketball Band, and Matt Merten regarding the Hockey Band.

There are 3 Concert Bands at Notre Dame: Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, and University Band.

The Symphonic Winds and Symphonic Band are comprised primarily of undergraduate students, and require an audition for placement. These ensembles rehearse on Thursday evenings from 5pm-6:15pm in the Ricci Band Rehearsal Hall.

The University Band is an "open" ensemble, and is the largest of the concert bands. Membership is comprised of university faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, and community members. This ensemble rehearses on Monday evenings from 8pm-9pm.

Please contact Matt Merten for more information regarding audition times and ensemble meetings.

Jazz Bands

Notre Dame has a proud history of jazz music. There are 2 "traditional" big band-style ensembles, and the ND New Orleans Brass Band. All jazz ensembles require an audition for placement.

In addition, the University of Notre Dame hosts the nationally-recognized Collegiate Jazz Festival each February. CJF is the oldest festival for collegiate jazz musicians in the country.

Jazz Band auditions are done online during the summer months, up through the the first week of the fall semester. Audition info and music is here. Please contact Larry Dwyer or Matt Merten for more information about auditions and meeting times.
