2/5/18 - The 172nd Band of the Fighting Irish (by the numbers)

With more than 380 students from 40 U.S. states, a U.S. territory, and 4 countries, the makeup of the Notre Dame Band is incredibly diverse. With students from Saint Mary's College and Holy Cross College joining students from Notre Dame, nearly every major across all 3 campuses is represented in the band's membership. While there are music majors that participate, this group makes up less than 2% of the band's total population. The most common major is engineering (33%), followed by arts & letters (25%), business (25%), the sciences (11%) and architecture (4%). 

Service is a critical component of a Holy Cross education, and is embodied in the numerous events hosted by and participated in by band members throughout the year. In addition to a days-long service trip in the fall semester, band-led service in the South Bend community happens throughout the year.
